This weekend I read about 100 pages of the series I am Number Four as I planned to have started this series. The main character doesn't have a solid real name, as to how he is changing it all the time, because the author hasn't given us his real name yet. He goes by John Smith in the majority of what I have read so far. John encounters several life threatening experiences even within 100 pages. He starts out in the story in Florida, the author gives us a list of the places he's lived in the past, but its too long to write. He ends up having to leave Florida after a short period just like other places all because of him screwing up and using a power or showing off his strength. He is supposed to just stay hidden and not have any friends or a life. That's how Henri, his "father" (its actually his guardian he was given from his planet but he claims Henri's his dad) says he supposed to live but John went to a party instead. He was having a fun time but as Number 1 and 2 are already dead, that means that Number 3 is being hunted. Number 3 dies while he is at the party. Now his leg is glowing very bright and it is burning a tattoo/scar into his leg as a symbol of 3's death. He is number 4. John had to leave the scene, so he jumped under the water, and ran home without taking a breath while under the surface. Little did he know he was being taped and  someone posted it to the internet for the Mogs (Mogadorian, alien race trying to kill the Number 1-9) to find the video and get on his trail.

4 then has to leave with Henri to a new spot, Henri chose a small town, Paradise, Ohio. 4 is immediately confronted by a girl at his new school, and this is where he starts his new name, John Smith. From the beginning John knew he had felt something special from talking with this girl, Sarah. John and Sarah take it surprisingly slow, when it was obvious that both were crazy for each other, but once they started dating there relationship boomed. Henri has a chest from the home planet, and inside was a letter telling him to move to paradise, but it has not been revealed why yet. But 4's legacies (powers) are starting to appear from the extreme emotional feelings he is getting from Sarah, and the school bully, Mark. I think its foreshadowing that somehow whoever wrote the letter, knew that John was going to meet these people. John decides he doesn't want to move or hide anymore and he decides to have a social life. He dates Sarah and makes new friends, Sam and a dog (he later finds out his dog came from his planet and actually is every animal at once, it can change animals) 4 now has the ability of fire resistance, telekinesis, and he can create light from his hands. Will he be able to defend himself from the Mogs, and are others developing legacies too to bind together and fight back? The Mogs have completely destroyed there planet and now its there time to protect Earth.

I am Number 4 by Pittacus Lore. This seems to be an interesting series about 9 aliens that are in hiding from the aliens that are trying to kill them. I have not actually read the series but it seems to be very enjoyable and I plan to start reading it. These aliens look like every other teenage boys in the world so one could be sitting right next to you right now and you would have no idea. The aliens all have special powers so that is why I infer the aliens from there home planet are coming to kill them.

The one thing I do not get is every alien has a number, 1 through 9, and the aliens from the home planet are going in order to kill them. Numbers 1, 2, and 3 have been killed and the main character is number 4. The aliens all know what number they are so they will know when they are being hunted. I can only imagine having a super power but not being able to tell anybody. Being completely different from everyone else and no one has an explanation why. They think you're and alien from a different planet because you are but you cannot tell them. The series is going to be very enjoyable to read and I hope I will be able to finish it.

Looking for Alaska - Movie Trailer

Looking for Alaska - related article

This article discusses how John Green, the author, did a good job at describing teenage love. It's not a typical boy meets girl love story, but gives raw and brutal honesty from each character. It's not a prim and proper book.  John Green didn't care that it might not be appropriate or proper book for young adults to read.

Book Cover

The main character Miles "Pudge" Halter was shy, and introverted at the beginning of the novel. He didn't have many friends and he was insecure. He decided to go to Culver Creek Boarding School to find himself. He quickly found new friends and realized he wasn't as introverted as he thought. He was playing pranks on people, drinking and smoking, and taking risks that he never would have before. He met his first girlfriend, Alaska, who changed his life. By the end of the book he was no longer questioning who he was and he accepted himself.
