A Long Way Gone

A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah

Not everyone in the world outside is not as fortunate as the people living in America. We have laws to prevent terrible things that are the norm of other countries. As Americans we never stop to think about a child in another country hooked on terrible drugs and killing for a living. A child that fights in a war and has killed many with the memories of blood and the sounds of gunshots filling his brain. A boy that doesn't "live" just does; because the drugs make him too numb.

New York Times states that children are most susceptible to being drafted to fight, because they are "easily manipulated, intensely loyal, fearless and, most important, in endless supply" Children are fighting wars at the same time of me writing a blog. "300,000 child soldiers" actually. Children's defense states approximately 2,715,000 children live in Ohio, which mean 1 out of every 10 kids under 18 in Ohio would become soldiers as an example of how many child soldiers exist.

  1. Wow, that's a lot of child soldiers. That statistic is really eye-opening. I'm reading this book too. Are you enjoying it?

  2. This book looks pretty intriguing but at the same time sounds like a very sad book. If you liked this book the one I read sounds somewhat similar it is call Girl Soldier by Faith J. McDonnell.
